Portugal enables a special visa for digital nomads

Portugal receives approximately 9.6 million visitors a year, due to its geographical proximity to other European countries. And a significant portion of those visitors decide to stay. As a result, the government enabled a new visa for workers. This visa will be available from October 30 and will be called a digital nomad visa.

Like any process, it involves a protocol and a series of requirements. Those who wish to obtain it must prove that they have an income of at least $2,820 euros per month. Those who access this new visa will be able to reside in the country for a period of one year and renew it for four more years, or apply for residency to stay for a longer time.

The digital nomad visa also comes at a time when the national government is making efforts to repopulate rural areas of the country that have a reduced number of citizens.

How to apply for the digital nomad visa?

-The first and perhaps somewhat complicated is precisely something that we mentioned previously: the income you receive month by month. You must verify that you receive 4 times the country’s minimum wage, that is, that you earn 2,820 euros per month. To do so, you must present proof of your income in the last three months.

-You must perform the procedure through the website of the Ministry of Strategic Business. There you will find a form that costs approximately 90 euros.

As you can see, more and more opportunities are opening up for those who decide to transform the way they live and work. In addition, not only Portugal has this type of visa, many other European countries have implemented it. The next one to do so will be Spain and it is even said that its requirements will be lower compared to other visas.
