How to be more productive by working on emotions ?

We have days in which concentration and work flow effortlessly, however, there are days when it is not the same. Negative feelings can prevent us from completing our tasks on time or simply end up procrastinating.  That is why today, we want to tell you how to be more productive by working on your emotions to overcome procrastination.

We tend to relate procrastination with laziness and lack of commitment, but if we understood that procrastination has an emotional and irrational background, maybe we would see it differently.

A New York Times article “Procrastination is not a matter of laziness, but of managing emotions” mentions: “People get hooked into this irrational cycle of chronic procrastination because of an inability to manage negative moods around a task”.

This allows us to leave aside the idea that it could be an issue of poor time management, but to understand that it is a way to deal with the negative emotions generated by certain conditions: boredom, anxiety, insecurity, frustration, resentment and more.

The subconscious or primitive mind leads people who suffer from this condition, to want to find an immediate way to feel better by alluding to the task or replacing it with another activity that generates relief. They end up turning this into a vicious circle since finally they must return to the task with added feelings of guilt, which generate greater negative feelings and inability to continue.

People who have suffered from emotional traumas in the past have unresolved personal issues. They are sometimes overly perfectionists, among other things, and may be prone to procrastinate and even be distracted by people.

Who has not seen the case of a colleague or friend whose partner left him and does not pay attention to his surroundings or to what some people tell him? To give an example, we even tend to judge without thinking further.

Now that we have identified the origin of procrastination, it is time to use the tools we have at our disposal as digital nomads and take responsibility for our success.

Psychological help and therapies in some cases are necessary and can help us to know ourselves better to improve our management of emotions. However, there are some activities that can help in parallel to deal with emotional burdens.

The process may take time, but the time to start is now, so we tell you how to be more productive by working on emotions and trying the following strategies:

1. Seek help

If you feel you have a problem of procrastination in which you are unable to make progress, it is necessary to seek the support of suitable people who can help you work on this problem. Some examples are workshops, lectures, or appointments with qualified professionals to work on this type of problem.

2. Practice meditation

3. Take part in outdoor activities

Getting out of the monotony and clearing your mind can help you release stress and worries, nature walks, sports and why not, a little nomadic work in a different space than usual.

4. Spend time with your family or friends.

Spending time with people who love and support you will always be an excellent option, make sure that the people you frequent help you positively in the healing process.
